Adafruit’s LTC4316 I2C Address Translator provides a solution to the common issue of conflicting addresses in I2C devices by offering on-the-fly address translation. With an ‘input I2C’ half and an ‘output I2C’ half, this chip automatically translates addresses for devices connected on the output side, making it easier to manage multiple I2C devices with fixed addresses.
Features:
- Automatic Address Translation: Each device connected to the output half has its address translated on-the-fly, allowing for seamless communication with the I2C controller.
- Configurable Address Translation: Bit A6 of the address is flipped automatically, while bits A4 and A5 can be flipped or kept the same using the onboard DIP switches, providing flexibility in address translation.
- Expanded Address Translation Options: Two DIP switches offer 4 address translation options, and additional options can be achieved by soldering an XOR_LOW resistor according to the datasheet.
- Easy Integration: The breakout board simplifies the integration process, making it suitable for various I2C-based projects and applications.
Specifications:
- Supports I2C Protocol: Compatible with I2C devices such as sensors, OLEDs, GPIO expanders, etc.
- Address Compatibility: Supports devices with fixed I2C addresses, providing a solution for addressing conflicts.
- Clock-Stretching Limitations: Does not support clock-stretching, so compatibility with certain devices like BNO055 may be limited.
