The WIZnet Ethernet HAT is a small, versatile expansion board designed to add Ethernet connectivity to single-board computers such as the Raspberry Pi. The HAT (which stands for “Hardware Attached on Top”) plugs directly into the Pi’s 40-pin GPIO header, and includes an Ethernet controller chip, RJ45 connector, and associated circuitry.
The WIZnet Ethernet HAT supports both 10/100Mbps Ethernet speeds and uses the popular W5500 chip, which provides a wide range of features such as TCP/IP protocol stack, network configuration, and data transfer. This also supports various network protocols such as TCP, UDP, ICMP, IPv4, ARP, IGMP, and PPPoE.
